A historical seven trophy win at the 2023 Adelaide Hills Wine Show
We are thrilled to share exciting news from Sidewood Estate’s recent triumph at the 2023 Adelaide Hills Wine Show, where we secured a historical achievement of seven trophies across three wines, setting a new record for both the region and Sidewood. Owner Owen Inglis expressed his gratitude, noting, “This victory is not a stroke of luck but the result of nearly two decades of unwavering dedication since the inception of our Mappinga Road vineyard in 2004.”
Inglis attributed this historic achievement to the exceptional team at Sidewood, highlighting key contributors such as Darryl Catlin, Mark Vella and many other dedicated staff across various departments. He emphasised that Sidewood’s success is a collective achievement, and everyone involved is truly part of the Sidewood family, affectionately known as ‘Sidewoodians.’ This marks the second consecutive year Sidewood has received the trophy for ‘Best Producer >100 Tonnes,’ reinforcing our commitment to excellence. In 2022, we also won trophies for ‘Best Pinot Noir of Show’ in addition to ‘Best Producer >100 Tonnes.’
Inglis concluded with special thanks to his family for supporting his passion for wine. Sidewood Estate is proud to be the largest sustainably certified winery and vineyard operation in the Adelaide Hills. Noteworthy mentions from the recent awards include the debut of our Mad Cat Rosé 2023, winning ‘Best Rosé of the Show’ within just a few months of its introduction. As we look ahead, Sidewood Estate is gearing up to celebrate its 20th anniversary next year, representing two decades of crafting exceptional wines! The 2015 Isabella Rosé Sparkling, named after Owen and Cassandra’s daughter, Isabella Rose, has added another accolade to its impressive list by winning ‘Best Sparkling Wine of the Show’ at the 2023 Adelaide Hills Wine Show. This Méthode Traditionelle, late disgorged after six years on lees, is a blend of 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay. With a remarkable track record, including a Platinum at the 2022 Decanter World Wine Awards and Best Australian Sparkling Wine of Show at the 2022 Rutherglen Wine Show. This sparkling continues to shine, earning high praise and recognition from esteemed competitions and critics worldwide. Isabella Rose herself received the award at the wine show, making this achievement even more special for the Sidewood family.
