At Sidewood, it’s all about capturing the true flavours of the fruit in the cider. In 2017, Sidewood won World’s Best Pear Cider at the World Cider Awards in London proving that Darryl Catlin and his team are doing a lot right.
Sidewood has made the conscious decision to make its Cider as natural as possible, and unlike many other products on the market, no sugar is added to Sidewood cider. In fact, the cider only contains our fruit.
“We do it slightly differently in terms of the way we make it,” says Daryl, which means there is no need for excessive sweetening of the final product.
Traditionally, mass-produced ciders can be comparatively sweet tasting as they often include concentrate or added sugar. Sidewood’s gluten-free and vegan-friendly product tastes as one would expect – like fresh fruit. Based on tests conducted in October 2016 Sidewood Cider has one of the lowest sugar contents on the market:
SIDEWOOD APPLE CIDER SUGAR CONTENT: 1.8 g/100 ml
HIGHEST SUGAR OF APPLE CIDERS TESTED: 8.2 g/100 ml
AVERAGE OF THOSE TESTED (SAMPLE SIZE 15): 4.56 g/100 ml
Sidewood’s hand-crafted premium ciders are sourced only from orchards in the cool climate of the Adelaide Hills. The six-week process starts within the orchards as the fruit is carefully hand-selected for flavour and acidity. To retain the fresh natural flavours the fruit is crushed and then cool fermented at the Sidewood Cidery within hours of picking.
Sidewood’s wines are internationally acclaimed with over 20 Trophies and 200 Gold Medals across our ranges. We are proud to share with you our current accolades here – Sidewood Awards Listing.
