HeritageOur Abel aka ‘Gumboot’ Pinot Noir clone is hand picked from South Australia’s first plantings of the mythical Abel clone vines. Legend holds that the Abel clone first departed the hallowed vineyards of Burgundy by way of a traveling gumboot. Making its way to New Zealand in 1974 and now to the Adelaide Hills. The ‘Gumboot Smuggler’ was caught by a NZ Customs’ officer, Malcolm Abel who incidentally was the first to graft the mythical cutting in his own vineyard.
VinificationSingle VineyardHand picked grapes were wild yeast fermented in small batches, 10% whole-bunch, partial whole-berry and 100% matured in older French oak barrels for eight months.
Tasting NotesAromas of dark cherry, Davidson plum and pine forest floor, with a palate layered with wild berries and allspice. Seamless tannins and a fine complex finish.
