Our Vineyards
Pursuing excellence from grape to glass
Situated in the Adelaide Hills Wine Region, 380m above sea level, the climate is significantly cooler. On average, 4 degrees cooler duringthe day and 8 degrees at night than Adelaide, Barossa Valley or McLaren Vale. This cool climate, rainfall and soil type all impart key attributes and characteristics to their wine, but Sidewood’s vineyards are curated with an unwavering focus on
excellence in viticulture.
The cool, dry Summer and long Autumn ripening conditions produce grapes with ideal fruit concentration, spectrum of flavour and natural acidity. Rainfall varies quite dramatically across the region, ranging from 1400mm at Mount Lofty down to 850mm at Charleston.
The vineyards and environmental conditions are curated with an unwavering focus on excellence in viticulture. Hand pruning, picking and fruit selection play a vital role to ensure that only the best fruit is grown and used in Sidewood wines. With 110 h.a. of carefully manicured vineyards, Sidewood as the largest premium grower/producer in the Adelaide Hills, is extremely well positioned to provide consistently exceptional wines.
Sidewood’s hard-working viticultural team led by Dylan Lee, use best-practice viticulture, ensuring the sustainability and health of the vines throughout the seasons, year after year.

Climate & Soil
The Adelaide Hills is one of Australia’s five cool climate regions, and the only one in South Australia, which is the largest and oldest wine producing state in the country.
CLIMATE
Adelaide Hills altitude ranges up to 600m above sea level. Due to its altitude, the Adelaide Hills is significantly cooler than Australia’s traditional regions. On average 4 degrees cooler during the day & 8 degrees at night than Adelaide itself. The cool, dry summer & autumn ripening conditions produce grapes with ideal fruit composition,
in terms of concentration, spectrum of flavour & natural acidity. The region is subject to large daily temperature movements during the growing season,
with stats at 20° or more from night to day being normal.
SOIL
The soils can be described as a mixture of sandy loams, loams and clay loams over clay subsoils that vary in structure. Generally, acidic and some cases neutral in pH, but rarely alkaline. The variation in topography and soil type can affect wine growth and contributes greatly to wine style.
