Our Environment
Visionary from the start
While sustainability is now a global expectation, Owen and Cassandra Inglis were ahead of their time, embedding environmental responsibility into Sidewood’s foundations from day one.
Certified by Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, our practices go beyond compliance, reflecting a long-standing commitment to stewardship and innovation.
In 2016, we transitioned to solar power, with a 205kW system
supplying up to 70% of our winery’s energy needs and saving 5,000 tonnes of
carbon over 15 years.
We harvest and store over a million litres of rainwater, treat and recycle all wastewater onsite, and continually refine waste streams to favour reuse and recycling.
In the vineyard, we utilise sheep for natural fertilisation, avoid synthetic chemicals, and optimise water use through drip irrigation and mulching.
We nurture biodiversity and soil health, ensuring Sidewood’s legacy of sustainability continues to grow naturally.
