LIMITED RELEASE - 300 Dozen

A highly awarded, cool-climate Adelaide Hills Chardonnay made from low-yield Mendoza clone fruit, named for Sidewood's owner & vigneron, Owen Inglis.

A rare, single vineyard Adelaide Hills Chardonnay from the Mappinga Rd site, crafted from Mendoza clone fruit. Wild fermented and matured in French oak, it delivers citrus precision, mineral tension and elegant structure, with exceptional balance and ageing potential.

TASTING NOTES

Fresh citrus and light floral notes on the nose lead into flavours of crisp green apple and subtle peach.

This elegant wine is clean and refreshing, with a smooth texture and a long, balanced finish.

VINIFICATION

Single vineyard (Mappinga Rd), 100% Mendoza clone. Handpicked, sorted in vineyard. Whole bunch pressed to 50% extraction. Wild fermentation in large-format French oak (35% new). Matured 10 months. Partial malolactic fermentation. Final barrel selection blended to 300 dozen.

VINTAGE CONDITIONS

Cool Adelaide Hills growing conditions with careful yield control (6 t/ha) support high natural acidity and slow flavour development. The vintage produced fruit with strong varietal definition, natural balance and fine structural line.

AWARDS & REVIEWS

Critically acclaimed with multiple 97 point scores and significant trophies both domestically and internationally.

97 Points Halliday's Wine Companion 2025
"This is the fourth vintage of this Mendoza clone; hand picked, whole-bunch pressed to only extract 50% of the juice, wild fermented in French puncheons (30% new) and matured for 10 months. Small wonder it won a gold medal at the 2023 Royal Queensland Wine Show. It's superfine, intense and precisely balanced, with grapefruit pith and citrus on its extremely long and bright palate. Only 300 dozen made."

95 Points Tony Love, Wine Pilot 2024
"A specially selected, all Mendoza clone variation in the estate’s Chardonnay program, crafted to showcase all the bigger characters of the style via whole bunch pressing, wild ferment in 30% new larger oak barrels, the best of which are then chosen for a limited-edition release after 10 months maturation. It’s a show-stopper Chardonnay in anyone’s language: full tote flint to start, richer white peach fruit senses, and cleverly painted backdrop of oak-derived spice. It’s a no-holds barred wine that already has been highly rewarded on the show and judging circuit."
