Steve’s Sidewood Cider Onions
Sidewood’s National Sales Manager, Steve Dundon’s Sidewood Cider onions on the BBQ for staff lunches have become somewhat of a lunchtime staple that we all look forward to. What began as an accident has become a necessity at all staff BBQ’s which is why we thought we’d share his recipe with you for you to make them at home (they’re delicious!).
“Sidewood Apple Cider has low sugar but fresh crunchy acidity and a huge amount of fresh aromatics. The cider glaze adds a subtle apple flavour and make sure you drink the rest of the Cider with lunch!” Steve said.
Check out his recipe below:
- 2 x chopped onions
- 3/4 can or bottle of Sidewood Apple Cider
- 1 x pinch of salt
- 1 x pinch of pepper

Step One: Fire up the BBQ and cover with oil
Step Two: Add 2 x chopped onions
Step Three: Cover with 3/4 of a bottle or can of Sidewood Apple Cider
Step Four: Add a pinch of salt and pepper and 3 tbsps of sugar to draw out the moisture
Step Five: Cook until onion is tender and caramelised and alcohol has burnt off
Step Six: Serve with your favourite BBQ classics and enjoy with a Sidewood Apple Cider!
